· Sign a contract with your employer in advance in two copies, one of which stays with you.
· Do not sign a contract which seems to you unclear, invalid, with unfilled conditions of work or with such that you do not like. You can consult the contract with a lawyer or at least with a friend.
· Before setting off, leave to your family/relatives/friends a copy of your passport, a copy of your contract, the address and telephone of your employer, if you know in advance – the address and telephone of the place you will stay at; the names and the telephones of the people you will travel with.
· If you go to study or work through an intermediary agency, check if it is legitimate.
· Collect all your necessary documents for your journey. If someone is making you a favor for the issue of your documents, check if the documents are in order.
· Before leaving, agree with your relatives on an alarm signal in case it is difficult to make a phone call or your conversation is tapped (for ex. A short phrase – “here it’s often shiny” which is to signal to your relatives that you are in danger)
· If you go abroad, get in contact with the embassy of the country you are going to check if you need some documents and if yes what they are – to reside, work, study in this country.
· Make inquiries at the embassy of the respective country about the employer you are going to.
· If you leave for another country, make a LIST of the telephone and address of the Bulgarian Embassy in the country you are going to; the telephone and address of organizations providing assistance to people in danger in the respective country; the telephone and address of friends or acquaintances in the country you are going to (if you have such).
· Even if you do not have doubts before leaving, phone some of the organizations working on the issue of human trafficking to receive more information how to travel safely and what to do in case of danger.
